Just look at the “distance to E” compared to the fuel gauge. My car wants to dream for me! ;_;

Because no sensors.....Unless, that’s what’s causing it?

Well it can’t even read pressure because my winter set has no sensors.

That might even blow my record away, but it doesn’t seem possible. The highest average on the dash was 40.3mpg. Ultimately read 39.6mpg when I rolled into the gas station, which was exactly how much gas it consumed...
That’s 434.5 miles to a tank.

I’m assuming you do a lot of highway miles, which I don’t. We’ll see what it says when I fill up tomorrow.

I never do highway miles, that’s why this was impressive enough to take a picture (it was 100% highway on a warm engine, gas station to gas station, with minimal traffic for about 95% of it (this was shot after getting through a traffic jam down in Tacoma that drew it down to around 36mpg, plus I wasn’t trying, so I believe it could have gone higher)).
Now that the weather is colder, along with the fact it almost never warms up, the car averages 22-23mpg if I really baby it. In the summer it’s 25-28 with normal driving. The current overall average is 26.1mpg.

That’s all 17 gallons on the interstate doing under 70 for me. :(

So you’re telling me you average 25-28 with normal driving in warm weather? Even when hooning and whatnot? Is that from the computer or are you doing the math? Because if I simply follow the computer, I can’t do better than an average around 23mpg year round. I only get 25+mpg if highway is involved!

I always do the math and I have noticed that the dash distinctly overestimates fuel economy when the engine is cold.
Warm is >60F or so where I live. It rarely actually stays that warm for extended periods.
It depends on what you define as hooning. I get about 2-3 spirited starts in per commute (~4 miles each way) and love to take corners at speeds that would be impossible in average cars.
Do you follow your shift light? I don’t know why people don’t trust it, but it really does know best. Driving this car is very similar to driving a diesel...

I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know the math behind mpg..... -_-
I do usually follow the shift light when not hooning, but I'm not sure how one drives a diesel either.

Miles per gallon.
Miles / gallon.
[miles travelled, per dash] / [amount of gas added to tank]
After filling your car up, when you’re looking at the screen that shows all the stats, push and hold the “OK” button on the wheel until it resets everything. The next time you fill up, use the miles from your tripometer and divide by the number of gallons you added. Easy as that. Repeat this process every time you fill up to get it every time.
As for how to drive a diesel: The engines have torque starting at extremely low RPMs, so that’s where you keep them. This engine is very similar. 1400-1500 is where the torque starts getting useful. It peaks at 2500 by the specs, though I believe dynos have shown it hits a little earlier. Old drivers are accustomed to ringing RPM out of gas engines for their torque. My mom drives my car like she does her little manual naturally-aspirated Nissan - starting at ~2000-2500 RPMs and shifting around 3500. This results in terrible fuel economy.

See, that’s how I like driving though. I love ringing out gas engines, I get it from my dad.
Now that I’ve filled up today, I’ll spend this entire tank shifting no higher than 2500rpm and see what happens. But I know I won’t like it because shifting so low in the rpms is boring to me haha!
I haven’t seen it hit 300+ in almost 2 years! We’ll see how this goes, but my next car will definitely be NA because it just suits my driving style better. Can't change what isn't broke!!

I can barley get 200 miles out of a full tank, that’s not bad! And with a mostly highway commute.

An average of a little under 16 MPG’s and a small fuel tank. I used to get 9 MPG’s for awhile. Good times.
